A deluge system is ideal for buildings where the risk of fire penetration and spread is relatively high, for example buildings used to store explosives or flammable liquids, tanks and plants. The aim of the system is to drench the entire area rapidly in order to prevent the fire from spreading.

Deluge systems are systems in which all sprinklers/nozzles are opened. As soon as a detector gives a signal, the deluge valve opens and water is released into the system and discharged through all the nozzles in the seat of the fire.

The main difference between an ordinary sprinkler system and a deluge system lies in the sprinkler heads. In a deluge system these are always open, and the system can be activated either manually or automatically; in the latter case activation is triggered by a detection system installed in parallel with the spraying system.
